LEKT Burn & Fireworks Ban

PUBLIC NOTICE

Burn Ban and Use of Fireworks Prohibited – Effective Immediately as of July 24, 2025
 
The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe hereby issues an immediate burn ban on all outdoor burning and the use of fireworks on all Tribal lands due to ongoing dry weather conditions and elevated wildfire risk. This order is issued to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the Elwha community, its lands, and natural resources.
 
Effective immediately, the following activities are strictly prohibited until further notice:
  • All forms of outdoor burning, including but not limited to campfires, fire pits, burn barrels, and the burning of debris or yard waste;
  • The discharge of fireworks or pyrotechnic devices of any kind;
  • The use of open flames of any type in outdoors areas, except in designated and approved areas expressly authorized by the Tribe.
Any violations of this order may result in enforcement actions, including citations, fines, and other penalties as outlined in the Elwha Justice Code. The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe reserves the right to take any and all necessary legal actions to enforce compliance with this order.
All residents, visitors, contractors, and individuals within Tribal lands are expected to comply with this order. The Tribe appreciates your cooperation in helping to safeguard our people, property, and environment during this high-risk period. Please stay informed through official Tribal communications for updates on when this restriction may be lifted.
