The staff of the Fisheries Office are routinely involved with many programs and projects ranging from resource management and enhancement to stock assessment to participating in those policy making forums that help to define the shape and quality of life that we enjoy here in the Pacific Northwest.

On-going staff projects currently include:

  • Restoration of salmon habitat in streams and rivers throughout the Strait of Juan de Fuca region

  • Monitoring of adult salmon returns along the Strait

  • Coded wire tagging and marking of juvenile coho and steelhead salmon

  • Participation in regional policy making forums, including:

    • The Endangered Species Act

    • The Elwha dams removal process

    • Regional and State-wide salmon restoration

  • Management and regulation of Tribal finfish and shellfish fisheries

  • Involvement in regional salmon enhancement projects
